Philadelphia author Bettina Hoerlin discusses her new memoir "Steps of Courage: My Parents' Journey from Nazi Germany to America." Inspired by Hoerlin's discovery of over 500 letters exchanged by her parents during their courship in pre-war Germany, "Steps of Courage" tells the story of their romance, forbidden in Hitler's Germany because her mother was of Jewish descent. Against all odds, the couple managed to escape to the United States, where they faced new challeges and befriended such icons as cellist Pablo Casals, conductor Wilhelm Furtwangeler, Eleanor Roosevelt, singer/actor Paul Robeson, painter Georgia O’Keefe and several Nobel-prize-winning physicists. The talk will take place in our store; refreshments will be served. Location:
