February 11th: EXILED LYRICS -- READINGS FROM PHILLY POETS

 
 

Join Philadelphia poets Frank Sherlock, Rachel Blau Du Plessis, Ahmad Almallah and Ryan Teitman in a reading to  welcome Fatemeh Shams, an Iranian poet, translator and professor of modern Persian literature currently teaching in Penn's Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations.  Her most recent collection When They Broke Down the Door received the 2016 book prize from the Persian Heritage Foundation. She was recognized as one of the leading voices of exile and diaspora literature when she won the Jaleh Esfahani Poetry Prize for the Best Young Iranian Poet in 2012. All five poets will be reading from their own work at The Penn Book Center.
