Rock Steady: Brilliant Advice from My Bipolar Life

Rock Steady is a companion to Forney's Marbles: Mania, Depression, Michelangelo, and Me and offers her own experience living with a mood disorder in the form of an illustrated self-help manual.
It combines personal stories and solid advice on how to overcome the hassle of meds, recognize red flags, and other tools from her own experience of 14 years of stability — all in comics form.
It is geared towards a broad audience encompassing those who struggle with mood disorders, their loved ones, and anyone interested in destigmatizing mental illness through education.

Ellen Forney is a cartoonist and illustrator living in Seattle, WA, with her partner. Forney illustrated Sherman Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (2007) and authored her 2012 graphic memoir, Marbles. She was the 2012 recipient of The Stranger Genius Award for Literature as well as the winner of the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis 2013 Gradiva Award.

Dese’Rae L. Stage is a photographer, writer, and suicide prevention activist. She's the creator of Live Through This, a multimedia-based storytelling series that aims to reduce prejudice and discrimination against suicide attempt survivors. Dese’Rae has received many awards for her work, including the SAMHSA Voice Award and the SXSW Community Service Award. Live Through This has received media coverage from the New York Times, Associated Press, NPR, and Dese’Rae is featured in a documentary about suicide prevention advocates called The S Word, screening nationwide.
